Taxi Driver

I am sick and tired of all the news, views and comments on the petrol subsidy fiasco. I need a break. I check my e-mail and got this joke from my ex-schoolmate from Down Under and wish to post it here, just for fun as I got nothing better to do right now :-)

** A passenger in a taxi leaned over to ask the driver a question and tapped
him on the shoulder. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly
hit a bus, drove up over the curb, and stopped just inches from a large
plate glass window.

For a few moments, everything was silent in the cab, and then the still a
shaken driver said, "I'm sorry but you scared the HELL out of me"

The frightened passenger apologized to the driver and said he didn't
realize a mere tap on the shoulder could frighten him so much.

The driver replied " No, no, I'm sorry, it's entirely my fault. Today is my
first day driving a cab. I've been driving a hearse for the last 25 years" **

Hey Captain,

What do you think about cost cutting exercise by the government yesterday....??

Very strange as during Mahathir's time he pushed the economy by spending and spending to revive and excelerate the economy.

It is the contrary now......With these types of measures the economy will definitely decline...!!and Slow down

Hi lakefields sg besi,

You mean one of these which reported on the front page of The Star?

> A 10% cut in the entertainment
allowance of ministers and deputy
ministers,
> Limiting their paid holidays to
local and Asean destinations,
> A 10% cut on government
department expenses,

To me it's mere eyewash as I echoed what Kalabakan MP Ghapur said as reported in The Star today (11/06/08).

Honestly, I don't know if the government is cutting back development plans.

Personally, I think during TDM era, the economy did pick up but mostly were due to mega-projects and heavy industries however not the SMI/SME which is the backbone of the real economy. Frankly I'm not an economist so my views is based on what I read from economists and analysts

I believe there is another report by The Hotel Association's Chairman that most of the hotels earnings depends on the government holding functions activities at the hotels. Earnings from these government activities comes up to approx 70%. Wouldnt you say that is massive and with the cutback now wouldnt you think that it will be a domino effect in this sector exerberating the slowing down of the economy for eg, retrencement of staffs, cutting down on advertisements, expenses , cost and etc...

Oc course one or the lay man could say that with the cut of some of these expenses a bulk of the monies dont fall into individuals' pocket. Even they do if these unscrupulous and unacceptable people doesnt hoard the money underneath their pillows and spend it. It will still put paid to a though insignificant share of the economy.. Having say that putting money in my pocket to spend to help the economy sounds good to me.....!!

I understand your concerned. When the government and private sectors cut down spending, it will affect the economy as a whole.

I agreed with you that having money to spend to help the economy is good.

The real issue is the way the government manage its income and expenditure.

What you propagated is exactly so on how the government manage its income and expenditure.

Its need to look into fiscal and micro policies besides keeping a tab on macro economies with relations to the ever increasing world oil prices. The over demand suppies of steel from the humongrous economies of India and China.

New challenges for our government present itself on the rebate of road taxes and the huge logistic repayment exercise for this matter.

It is good news for the stable retail oil prices as of yesterday to last until end of the year.
